And yeah, with black men being the objects of white psychosexual fears this has a lot of opportunity to become yet another means of disproportionate suffering of black men at the hands of the justice system and for eugenics.
So imagine what that number looks like for all sexual assaults against women and girls.
No State government gives a tiny shit about women getting raped. It's just a cudgel to punish poor men and maintain the illusion that law enforcement protects women in America.
Yeah, I've seen how little cops care first hand. In fact, they managed to focus more on the race of the perpetrator, while ignoring the footprints that clearly indicated that they were wrong about how he got in.
If the justice system actually cared about victims of sexual violence they'd focus on tried and true known methods of reducing recidivism and they'd actually test rape kits

It’s like the death penalty, once you kill someone it’s too late to say sorry when new evidence comes out and they are innocent.
It's also like the death penalty that it riles people up, they say "God Damn Right" and "They DESERVE IT my mofuckin' KIDS gotta be PROTECTED" while painting anyone who doesn't like it as sympathetic to perverts.

Always be skeptical anytime anyone uses an argument of this form. There are tradeoffs for everything, but this phrasing only serves to stop people from weighing them fairly.
Oh, and the above quote comes from the co-sponser of the bill, who is a Democrat. Just in case you thought this was a Republican problem.
There are places that will execute you for it, but the crime still happens there. Criminals never think they will get caught.
Draconian laws have the effect of turning abuse into murder. On the other hand, we absolutely need to be castrating abusive parents. Break the skull of your infant, it gets taken away, have another one. Over and over. This society is so damn ignorant.

Yes, you likely will get children in and out of the foster care system, because drug addiction tends to be a really big issue, and not sure if you're aware of anything, but people tend to relapse a significant portion of the time. However, that isn't child murder, a thing you said happens, so let's focus on that. Is the child murder in the room with you right now?
if they surgically remove the testicles the person loses their ability to make testosterone and will be dependent on weekly injections for the rest of their life, without hormones your bones get brittle. in addition to the mental trauma. this is pretty grim.

I'd argue that the means are barbaric and obviously ripe for political abuse and corruption.

In most of the southern states, having sex with children is legal if you marry them first. (And minors can’t file for divorce!)
Coincidentally, (IIRC) most child marriages are because of pregnancy.
My teenage mother didn’t marry my father (she was 15, he was in his twenties), but she did immediately find another guy to marry and get knocked up by. She was so fucked up by this that she told me that my biological father was an entirely different adult man (who she had never had sex with but had a crush on). If I had been born male, then she would have named me after a classmate she thought was cute.

I might be okay with castration for violent rape. The problem is when it's considered a sex crime for an 18 year old to have sex with a 17 year old. And a lot of other things are branded as sex crimes that shouldn't be. And Republicans want to make it a sex crime to be gay or transgender
If anything, castrating a sex offender makes it _easier _ for him to commit offences.
Far less DNA evidence plus the relative ease of cis men getting testosterone and erectile dysfunction pills.

Much of this crime is perpetrated by people that can't "fit in" with other social groups so this action may increase the likelihood of reoffending

Why is Castrating
GAYSTRANS PEOPLEDEMOCRATSPedophiles Pointless? YOU must LOVE Pedophiles!It has the same issues as any other permanent punishment in that if somebody is wrongly convicted then it can't be reversed. Hell, we still execute people we know were wrongly convicted fairly frequently. If this passed then there would definitely be wrongly convicted people getting castrated. Being castrated also doesn't prevent sex offenders from reoffending. The lack of sex hormones would reduce sex drive but for most offenders it's less about the sex and more about control. Also if a reduction in sex drive is the goal then there are chemical means to acheive that (which still don't actually stop sex offenders).
So you would just wind up castrating a few innocent people while still making no difference in the actual offenders ability to reoffend.
Unless we can know with absolute 100% certainty that the accused is guilty then the best thing to do with people who are convicted of henious crimes like that is to just lock them up. That way they can't hurt anyone but if new evidence comes out that proves them innocent then they can be released and the damage can still be somewhat remedied.
Even if we somehow could know with absolute 100% cetainty that they were guilty (I'm not sure how that would even be possible) castration still wouldn't make sense because it still leaves them the chance to reoffend. IMO if we lived in a magical world where absolute truth could be known by all then rapists should just be killed because the risk of a rapist reoffending outweighs the worth of a rapist and nothing else will actually ensure they won't reoffend.
Very true, but even without reading the article, I know which political party is the impetus behind this idea. And, for them, the cruelty is the point. They've never cared about crime victims, but rather enacting their unhinged punishment rituals to affirm in their minds that there are worse people in the world than themselves.
Start with the US president, and after thst I start thinking about it (and will probably still come to the conclusion in the title)
