However, the major tech corporations are not considering an immediate halt to their surveillance measures. Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Snapchat’s parent company, Snap, announced on Saturday in a joint statement that they will “continue to take voluntary measures” to identify such material on their platforms.

Guys, relax, it’s for the children! /s

Get the management behind bars. No mercy with criminal firms.

Straight up telling the world that they’ll break the law…

….no? They are allowed to do that. Chat Control was about making it a requirement for all communication software, breaking encryption in the process.

Edit: scratch that. I read the article again…

For others reading it:

ChatControl 1: allow scanning on voluntary basis (voted down twice recently)

ChatControl 2: mandatory scanning

I’d like to thank them for demonstrating the true nature of Chat Control by tearing off that national security facade.

The main four companies that make $billions from scanning messages argue child safety. Whatsapp was purchased for $22b as an act of overt socialist love to allow people to communicate………. (Sarcasm)

Would be funny if the EU’s digital service act applies and basically says “you scan everything, you’re liable for everything”

Thick European accent: “You scan? No, you scan’t!”

What exactly is a ‘European accent’?

It’s when you repeat something 27 times

Europe = Germany, otherwise its paris or spain, italy is an island next to new york

Well you’re talking to me aren’t you? That’s what it sounds like.

Edit: ah I apologise being that short. Bit of crappy day.

Fuck sake, they’re still trying to push this shit though?

I thought their repeated attempts had been made illegal?

Because they desperately want to co-opt the state to allow their surveillance capitalism.

It really is a huge liability plus the optics are game ending for the public using their service. Can you imagine, “The government doesn’t require us to scan your conversations anymore, but we still do it anyways and sell it to whoever”.

What was the law for then

imo that was to be expected.

But as long as other providers can offer alternative messaging solutions that will not be forced to decrypt and scan my messages, I can personally live with that.
