These are lists of some tools and software that are useful for Steam Deck and can enhance your experience with it, as well as all the websites and other such Steam Deck resources I know.
Whenever my main pc is running some heavy game that requires all resources, I throw my handheld on the 2nd monitor, just swapping inputs between bluetooth and wireless to go back and forth when necessary. Works great for multitasking. Think it’s nice when my handheld is being used for gaming, my pc is in productivity mode, and when I want to play something heavier my handheld becomes the productivity pc (I sometimes do remote work and keep games running on my main pc for when I take breaks so I don’t have to reload the game.)
My Steam Deck OLED does the thing where after waking from sleep it infinitely displays the spinning logo, the game sound is audible but I can’t actually get into the game. In most cases no buttons react, not even the Steam button. Only way out is a forced shutdown. Everything works again after a restart.
The plugin brings the excellent CopyParty, which is a file server program. After toggling it on from the Decky plugin, you can go to the provided IP address on any of your devices, enter the password, and access the Deck’s files. You can manage files, upload or download files, and more. File transfer speeds are fast and resumable.
A gaming phone controller accessory that connects physically to phone (With same layout and functionality like the Steam Controller, Steam Deck, and Steam Frame Controllers) Would be cheaper than regular Steam Controller
Lately my Stream Deck has not been accepting “mouse” clicks, whether it be my trackball, the touch pad on my keyboard, or the Steam Deck’s own hardware buttons. A restart of the deck had been working, but today it does not. Also now when restarting, the Deck boots into game mode instead of back into desktop.
We’re also committing to supporting Vortex on SteamOS. We’ll be targeting vanilla Steam hardware like the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. We won’t be officially supporting any other configurations, but as Vortex is an open source project community developers will be free to extend support for their preferred Linux distros as they please.

Someone mentioned this on a the recent discussions about Nexus Mods cancelling their Linux mod loader, and after trying it out I thought it was worth making a dedicated post about it.
So I asked my friends on the RetroDECK team if they’d be open to me asking them a few questions about their latest update (which is a full rewrite of RetroDECK), and they were more than happy to.
The line between a Linux user and a Linux power user is a bit gray, and a bit wide. Most people who install Linux already have more computer literacy than average, and the platform has long encouraged experimentation and construction in a way macOS and Windows generally aren’t designed for. Traditional Linux distributions often ask more of their users as well, requiring at least a passing familiarity with the terminal and the operating system’s internals especially once something inevitably breaks.
I am trying to run a game that I bought on itch.io but I get no licenses error. Even if try to run it directly in desktop mode, steam just interrupts the game and displays no licenses error.
Any ideas?

Here’s a small bit of news but an interesting one for the upcoming Steam Frame from Valve, as Linaro recently revealed they’re supporting Valve with it. We don’t yet have any better details on when the Steam Frame will release, just sometime this year.
I run both Fedora and Bazzite on my Steam Deck (LCD) in dual boot. Since upgrading to Fedora 43, I could no longer get the audio on the built-in speakers to work. It was still working on Bazzite.
im confused, its specs are amazing and on paper is more powerful than the meta quest 3, but its mainly being advertised as a streaming headset that goes from your vr spec pc (that is becoming more and more expensive these days for people).
My power button clicks and feels normal. It doesn’t work in any situation at all. I can turn on the deck from off by plugging in the cord and if it’s already on but screen off I can only wait for it to die or open the shell and disconnect the battery.
i was gonna get a quest 3 for christmas but then the steam frame got announced and i was like HELL NAH and thew my quest 3 ideas out of the window. if everything falls into place il have my steam frame just intime for my birthday :D
A few Werks ago, I sold my Xbox one and with that my only working controller for my PC. Since then, i have been playing hollowknight and Jedi fallen order on my old Xbox 360 controller with its unlikeable d-pad, even after multiple mods to it.
I installed Dino Crisis and Alice Madness Returns with a French setup, either on Steam Deck under SteamOS or PC under Windows (ISO FR). Once it’s finished, I launch a game, I see that the game is in English, not in French. I tried adding LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 %command% to “arguments in Lutris but that doesn’t change anything. the same for Alice
Some games I’d rather play on PC for various reasons (immersion, control scheme, etc), but then some games felt just right to play on the Deck, Blasphemous, Pentiment, Citizen Sleeper…
I’m looking for a combination of gaming and streaming on a smart TV. Because I don’t want the smart TV to connect to the internet and show ads or use AI companions, I’m looking for alternatives. Since small PCs are a good alternative to streaming boxes, I’m wondering, whether SteamOS can also do that? Or is it better to have two separate devices?
In a surprise move, or perhaps not so surprising given current market conditions, Valve has not only stopped stocking the Steam Deck LCD in the U.S., but has also explained that it is phasing out the entry-level gaming handheld.
I posted about this game once before when it started becoming playable on Deck. It’s another PlayStation published title, but at launch it was unplayable on Deck due to various performance issues. I just think it’s cool to see games intentionally optimized until they’re Deck viable.
It’s pretty common to hear about people replacing their thumb sticks to avoid drift in the future, but I almost never actually hear about people having drift or other issues with the original OEM thumb sticks (outside of the occasional person who broke their stick by dropping the Deck).
