So close, damn it.
I hope Dr. lloD respects their moral obligation to crush people - at least in casual games - while playing as “Dr Mario”.
If professionals are winning tournaments and then going back to their massive salary, then what am I doing with my life?!
FWIW, the article says he’s a resident, so he is in all likelihood both incredibly overworked and not making that much money yet.
The article doesn’t mention how far into his residency he is, but if he happens to be a first year resident, he could be making only $73k CAD in Toronto (~$51k USD). That’s also on 60+ hour weeks, so it’s not far off from minimum wage.

Don’t forget the crushing med school debt.
If I were to hazard a guess - probably just different interesting and worthwile things.
“There’s a promising new procedure for treatment of genu varum.”
“Great. When do we start?”
“FALCON PONCH!!!”
Go ahead and bump “Doctor” a little further down on your resume, home dog. You have a new title to show off
You’re telling me PPMD wasn’t a real MD?
