This is a tad embarrassing. You see, I thought that I was merely copying a popular Facebook group. I was unaware that Dull Men's Club was an official club. Please give the site a peruse as it is quite a delight!

I was super stressed about it (still is, thanks for all the help and good words in the knives instances) I guess I will see if I did good on my next camping trip.

I don’t have much experience with car repair.

Not the electric screen and rocking chair but pretty much everything else….I should be more specific. I closed in my little porch and love it.

I did a stupid and want to say thanks to the NHS who patched me up. Ask me about the stupid, it’s pretty stupid.

Made the mistake of buying sushi at a 24 Hour grocery shop planning on eating at that night. It’s sat in the fridge for two days. I live somewhat out in the country and I went to grab a snack and grab two little rolls out of it and scarf those down real fast so I can get up to the mountains and sight in some of my rifles.

tomorrow! it’s tomorrow! in almost 24 hours we begin!

There’s a lot of them, and they’re actively buzzing around. I suppose they’ll have a good chance to survive the winter, unless a bear gets them. I probably won’t take much if any honey, so they’ll have more.

Believe it or not, there is a mile long island a half mile away, and it cannot be seen due to forest fire smoke. The Air Quality index is currently at 1650. It is considered unsafe for anyone to be outdoors now. And I can even smell the smoke inside the house now. There are no birbs flying around the yard and not even insects are in the air.

this one’s a girl, you can tell because the chin is the same color as the body. Also because she’s like 2x the size of all the boy frogs I caught.

The Norwegian wood stack is complete. I’ve just finished capping it. This is the 360° timelapse video of the construction.

This is probably the penultimate update on that friggin’ wood stack 🙂 The next - and final - one will be the thing capped and finished at last, possibly with a 360° timelapse video since I took enough 360° photos from the same vantage point since I started building this thing 2 months ago.

I added a few layers of wood to the outside of the Norwegian wood stack, to create more space inside for the rest of the wood I have left to split. It is now 4 feet high. And yes, now I know how to keep the logs flat as I grow the stack, so it doesn’t collapse after stacking up more than two feet 🙂

The old gal passed away about 20 years ago and I’m a sentimental idiot. I have a few items in the house that are not allowed to fail, this is one of them.

I had the boardwalk between the house and the summer cottage replaced, but with twist - literally: both ends of the boardwalk now gently rise up and meet the house’s backdoor and the cottage’s front porch level, so there are no steps anywhere. Also, it’s wider than regular, commercial boardwalks. You could say it’s a boardwalk with accessibility in mind.

The yellow and white clover, along with the odd wild daisy, are blooming in my yard! So no mowing for another week or two.

I went to open the window in the basement yesterday and saw that I had a little visitor. The window is in a window well, and there are 2.5’ walls on all the sides. At first I thought she was just rooting around, but then realized she was trapped. So, I set a wooden plank down into the alcove to give her a way out. She didn’t take it.

Trying my kayak’s new side camera mount on our lake this morning at 5am. I love those still, windless days that turn the lake into a mirror. It’s so quiet and peaceful.

I got this blackstone out the trash last week. Cleaned her up and I’ve been making some good stuff.

The sink broke so I had to install a new one. Basically the top of it came off when my mother wanted to turn it.

They are from the farmer’s market and I think we will actually eat all of them instead of letting them rot in the fridge like we normally do.

The transmitter in Grimeton -over a 100 years old now- transmitted today. They start it up many times a year, but it only transmits like twice a year and then only for a few minutes.

I just got a tiny offset smoker. Almost impossible to manage temperatures. Stayed up most of the night, made a million mistakes. Cooked too hot, a bit too smoky sometimes. Took it off too early thinking it was going to keep cooking during the hot hold until lunch. Had to reheat it to get it going again. Turned out AMAZING. The only real mistake was trying to sear the fat cap to get it to tighten back up a bit. The fat dripped onto the fire and made it smoky in a bad way. I took it off right away, no major damage except some of the fat stuck to the grill lol! Plus I almost dropped it trying to pull off this maneuver!

Every year, the floor was getting a little further away. That is to say, it became harder to go from sitting on the floor to standing again, so I’d avoid getting on the floor unless the cat belly was particularly enticing.

Again, one of those things I should’ve bought 15 years ago. I just didn’t know these even exist. This is the second most exited I’ve even been about a bucket only narrowly topped by the time I found two for free.

My photo tripod is a cheap China-made Bluesky-branded thing I bought for $20 some 30 years ago in a supermarket. As photo gear goes, you can’t find anything cheaper and more unsophisticated. I’ve often thought I should buy a better one, but I’ve never bothered because this one is okay. Not great, but good enough that I balk each time I look at the prices of better tripods. I use it 10 times a year tops, and it’s plenty good enough for that.

Got some walking sticks in the works. Giving them away to friends. Probably gonna keep the one with this cool looking knot.

The beet crop is growing nicely. But we remain vigilant against the deer. Despite their best efforts, the string beans are holding their front. And have been reported as growing back. I have 7 nice peppers and some tiny tomatoes are appearing.

I filled up the inside of the Norwegian wood stack and I have quite a lot of wood left to split. So I’ll start growing the outer stack again. But not today: it’s time for a beer now 🙂

Four tonnes of firewood arrived on Friday afternoon. It took my family of four a little over five hours to carry it to the storage shed. I had a reference because my autism demanded stimulation.

I’ve been wanting a propane grill since we bought our house 5 years ago but I didn’t want to shell out big bucks for something I won’t be constantly using. My town is doing a village garage sale this weekend and I saw this little guy 4 houses down from me so I ran over and offered my neighbor $40. It came with a cover and I already have a full propane tank so I am excited to get grilling.

The new kayak has arrived.

Continuing the workshop build. Been working like a maniac to get this done. Pleased with the results so far.

my 3d printed mouse broke - the click upper didn’t up anymore. With a new 3d printed part, the click upper now ups again.

Okay, maybe not so dull, but it was more hoops than I figured I’d have to jump through, but I finally got the basics all set up and working!

My house is 112 years old. I was in my attic and soaking my shirt because it was 120° in there (I live in Florida). I thought how nice it’d be to get some fresh air in there. I thought it’d be even better if I could get that air from the (somewhat) cooler air in my crawlspace. Then I noticed the 4” cast iron pipe that was used to be the drain pipe for the house from 1915 through about 2000. The vent for that pipe runs through my attic and straight down to my crawlspace…unused and forgotten. So I cut the pipe and disconnected it from the roof and cut off and closed up any branches it had. I cut it and slapped a screen on it in the crawlspace. In the attic I put on an inline fan (6 watts) and a bit of duct to vaguely direct it around the attic. Early tests say my attic is about 7° cooler. Am I crazy?
