I’m looking for some boots that are available in the UK, with a similar aesthetic to the standard 6” Timbaland leather ankle boot, but not rubbish. Suitable for wide toes would be a massive bonus, as would available to try on in a shop outside of London.
After stumbling across a blog post about how big brand kitchen products and appliances are mostly just hollow shells with little to no integrity, I found that same blogger/journalist has a robust list of brands that haven’t gone the way of capital sell-outs that goes way beyond kitchen utensils.
I recently picked up Crafted With Pride. It is basically a directory for brands who actually manufacture stuff in America (with a section for Canada, too). There are many many tiny brands making great stuff that you’ll never hear about because they dont advertise. It’s not “BIFL” necessarily as much as it’s “buy local”, but obviously there’s a lot of overlap in those sentiments. A lot of them are literally 1 man shops.
I admit I do not have much knowledge on this front, so I would like to ask knowledge here from others for best options to reduce. While I know there is no perfect solution truly, what could be a good resource for reducing?

Back in 2008 I bought an Overboard waterproof backpack. That thing took a beating for almost 15 years before the straps started giving up. It’s been through months-long trips and Canadian winters and saw near-daily use for the entire time. One thing that I loved is that I could take it on a plane, and it just fit as a carry-on, and it could comfortably squeeze underneath the seats on a plane. At the time, I heartily recommended it to everyone.
Was wondering whether I should look for another body (maybe metal ) for Parker g2. I have the standard versions and very much like the ink, but I’m unsure whether the body is durable. Also I feel like I would be more inclined to buy refills for a pen if it had a nicer body.

I have a large kitchen aid stand mixer, and I love it… But sometimes i want a small mixer where i do not have to lift the 500 pound beast onto the counter.

Looking to get a coat that has multiple layers and an outer shell to use for various weather in winter biking for commuting. Looking to wait towards end of season to try to find some end of season sales, but want to know brands that are durable and have some warmth, my old coat is down since I sometimes bike or walk around in -20 degree with wind chill. I’ve got myself a pair of Solovair chelsea boots about a year ago and the soles are already pretty worn out. Water gets through the sole so I probably have to resole them if possible.
I’m not really sure where to post this, but wanted to share that screwing a 1/4-20 bolt into the bottom hole of my otherwise-sealed Philips Sonicare 4100 and just pulling on it successfully opens the toothbrush. An M6 screw might work too; M5 is slightly too small. Philips says to use a hammer to open it, which is absurd. The battery is still soldered, but in my case that wasn’t what I needed to repair anyway.
