Thing is we made up the word apes. The universe doesn’t care.

I don’t really get why it matters.

Would it have been less shocking if we were talking mice? Or talking snakes? Most species communicate one way or the other, a lot of them through sounds, that’s pretty common.

Unless the confusion is about humans being “apes” but then again, I don’t see why it would be so shocking.

Why is everyone just acting like that’s normal!?

Case in point!

Because anyone who has a problem with it is a talking ape.

Did you know you are an animal? :)

Because a) it’s old news and b) it’s technically incorrect. Apes and humans share a common ancestor but are not the same.

We’re not modern apes, but we are apes, in the same way that birds are dinosaurs

It’s not incorrect, if by “apes” you mean hominids (which is what it usually refers to), then we’re part of that family and by extension we’re what’s colloquially known as apes.

I’ve personally not seen a single news story about it in my life or it obviously would’ve fully hit me sooner.

I’ve also never seen a news story about it, because it’s so old news that I just learnt about it in biology class

Try to downplay it and cover it up all you like. I’ve just submitted it as a news tip to half a dozen newsrooms. We’ll see who’s right!

Speak for yourself, I’m a talking fish (all tetrapods are fish)

What fucks me up is we used to interact with other, different talking apes and now they’re all gone.

Lots a creatures “talk” or have “talked” to some degree. Corvids like crows and ravens can communicate what humans are kind or cruel and pass that information down the generations.

The fact that we are apes and can communicate with each other isn’t that extraordinary.
